Southern Gospel Singers United

In February, 2014, a group of southern gospel music lovers, with decades of singing experience, met to discuss the future of southern gospel music in the western Kentucky area. Many ideas came from that meeting and the many discussions that followed. That initial gathering led to the organization of a group to be named Souther Gospel Singers United (SGSU). The sole purpose of SGSU is to spread the Good News of salvation and eternal life through southern gospel music and by witnessing at every opportunity.

From that small start, SGSU has grown to some twenty to twenty-five groups and soloists. The organization has the usual cadre of officers and seven board members - all from different groups in the organization.

Each group has given unselfishly of their time and talent to help SGSU grow to what it is today. There are groups from Kentucky, Missouri, Tennessee, West Virginia, and Alabama that travel great distances to share the Gospel, often with very little or no financial reimbursement.

All SGSU groups have the opportunity to share their music at our annual convention held in July at a venue in western Kentucky. In addition, SGSU has a monthly Friday night gospel singing held at the Kentucky Opry in Benton, KY. At the Friday night concerts, no admission is charged. A love offering is received to offset building rental expense and to help pay expenses of groups performing each evening. There are usually 2-3 groups that participate in the 3rd Friday Night Souther Gospel concerts. Many have been blessed by witnessing souls saved and prayers answered for those confronting health and other issues at these concerts.
